The idea of life time jobs is long gone. Now you will more likely be hired for the "project" and when it is gone, you are gone.

Last hired has least seniority and is first to go when a project or contract is not renewed. So getting a job, and back on a payroll, can be relatively short lived.

You having already been unemployed for a year does NOT advance your seniority.

The older you are the less likely they are to retrain you at company expense because you may not be around long enough to recoup the expense of any such training for a different job.

We call it developing an income with time working for you, instead of you trading your time for dollars. This is a whole strange concept for many since they spent 15 or 20 years getting educated to hold a Job.
